Trump Regains Support From Key GOP Billionaire Megadonor

Former President Donald Trump has regained support from a key Republican Party donor this week as Stephen A. Schwarzman — chairman, CEO and co-founder of Blackstone, the private equity and real estate giant — announced that he will support the former president after previously saying that he would not.

The lifelong Republican, who is one of the richest people in the world with a net worth close to $40 billion, told Axios on Friday that he would donate heavily to Trump and Senate Republicans this election cycle.

“The dramatic rise of antisemitism has led me to focus on the consequences of upcoming elections with greater urgency,” he said. “I share the concern of most Americans that our economic, immigration and foreign policies are taking the country in the wrong direction.”

“For these reasons, I am planning to vote for change and support Donald Trump for President. In addition, I will be supporting Republican Senate candidates and other Republicans up and down the ticket.”

Schwarzman, who was one of Trump’s top supporters when he was in office, announced in November 2022 that he was not planning on supporting Trump during the primaries and that he believed it was best for the party to choose a new generation of leaders.

“America does better when its leaders are rooted in today and tomorrow, not today and yesterday,” Schwarzman said. “It is time for the Republican Party to turn to a new generation of leaders and I intend to support one of them in the presidential primaries.”
