A one-year-old boy has been shot dead after police responding to an alleged abduction opened fire on a pickup truck in Ontario, Canada.
The boy's 33-year-old father - who had allegedly kidnapped the boy - suffered a gunshot wound, and a police officer was also wounded in the incident.
It is not yet known if the boy was killed by shots fired from police or the father. Officials have not named the father or the baby.
The incident began when the father allegedly attempted to abduct his son from a Trent Lakes home around 8:45am on Thursday, shortly after a domestic dispute that involved the use of a firearm, according to Global News.
From there, a pickup truck sped away from the scene and was located by the Ontario police in Kawartha Lakes.
When police attempted to stop the vehicle, it collided with a police vehicle and a civilian vehicle. A cop standing outside of the cruiser sustained serious injuries.
Three officers then opened fire on the vehicle, according to the Special Investigations Unit, the civilian agency that investigates police-involved deaths.

The man was hit and seriously wounded by the shots, and was airlifted to a Toronto hospital in critical condition.
Officers found the one-year-old in the back seat of the car, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
It's not clear if the fatal shots were fired by the officers or by the alleged abductor.
Three police firearms were recovered from the scene, as well as a fourth handgun that was found in the pickup truck.
Ontario Provincial Police commissioner Thomas Carrique tweeted, 'As a result of a tragic incident today, one child is dead and two others significantly injured. I ask that @SIUOntario and @YRP be given time to investigate, without speculation on the events as they unfolded. Our thoughts & prayers are with those that are suffering today.'
The Special Investigations Unit later arrived on the scene of the shooting and took charge in the investigation.
'It's too early for us to know why officers fired at the vehicle, and it's too early for us to know exactly what transpired,' said Monica Hudon, communications coordinator of the SIU.
Protesters were seen outside the SIU headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario after the shooting.
One held a sign reading: 'End impunity for police brutality.'
Another held a sign saying 'Justice 4 Jamal,' in response to the police-involved shooting of Jamal Francique, who was killed in January.

Witnesses to the alleged abduction say they saw police vehicles chasing a pickup truck after it sped away from a home.
'We heard the first vehicle hit the side of the road, so you could tell it was going really fast,' witness Michelle Barry said to Global News. 'Almost like a car chase. Then we heard the sirens.'
Neighbor Tom Deciccio said, 'Some people came to the house and wanted in, for a safe haven and there was something about the husband had left with the little baby.'
