Two fugitives die crashing stolen truck in a police chase a day after escaping from Tennessee jail 400 miles away by crawling through an air vent: Third escapee remains on the run

Two Tennessee fugitives who crawled through an air vent to escape from jail have died crashing their stolen truck after a police chase a day after their escape.

Tobias Carr, 38, Johnny Brown 50, and Timothy Sarver, 45, were all in the Sullivan County Jail in Blountville, Tennessee, last week on charges that varied from murder to tampering with evidence, domestic violence and identity theft.

It's unclear if they knew each other before they found themselves locked up together, but on February 4, the three men escaped from the jail through one of the air vents in the ceiling of the jail. They crawled through the vent from their cell.

They fled the state of Tennessee, traveling first to Virginia, and then to North Carolina where Carr and Sarver robbed a grocery store at gunpoint at 4.30am on Saturday.

Timothy Sarver, 45, and Tobias Carr, 38, escaped from jail in Tennessee on Friday along with a third inmate. The pair died on Saturday, 400 miles away, while fleeing police in a stolen truck after robbing a convenience store at gunpoint

They then fled in a stolen truck and were chased by police before eventually crashing the vehicle and dying.

Police will not clarify how exactly the men died - if they were shot or if they died as a result of crashing the car.

All they will say is that the vehicle was 'disabled' following a chase.

Brown was not with the men when they robbed the grocery store. He remains at large and is considered dangerous.

Carr was in custody on charges of second-degree murder, vandalism and tampering with evidence.

Timothy Sarver was in jail on charges of auto theft and identify theft.

Johnny Shane Brown had been arrested on charges of domestic violence, harassment and aggravated stalking.

It remains unclear how long they had all been in the Sullivan County Jail when they escaped last week, or how long it took sheriff's deputies to realize they were gone last week.

After escaping, the men are understood to have stolen a Chevrolet Silverado truck in Virginia.

At 4.30am on Saturday, Carr and Sarver stormed the Speedway Convenience store in Onslow, North Carolina.

They tied up the clerk, held him at gunpoint then robbed the store's safe and cash register before fleeing in the store clerk's car.

They drove south for an hour to Wilmington, North Carolina, where they eventually crashed the car and died.

Police are still looking for Brown. It's unclear how far he got with the other fugitives before splitting off from them.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office released a statement on the police chase on Tuesday saying: ''The clerk reported that around 4:30 a.m., two white males entered the store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint.

'The suspects tied the clerk up and left after stealing money from the register and safe. The suspects fled in the clerk’s car. The clerk was not injured.

'North Topsail Beach Police Department responded as well to assist and upon their arrival spoke with the victim.

'While speaking with the victim, the victim saw his vehicle drive by with the two white males inside. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects refused to stop, and a high-speed pursuit began.

'Multiple agencies assisted as it traveled through Onslow, Pender, New Hanover, and Brunswick Counties.

'The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed in Brunswick County.'
