Shocking video shows violent bullying incident between middle-school girls: 'I will hurt you'

South Carolina police have charged a sixth-grade student they say violently bullied another student in a shocking incident that was captured on camera.

What happened?

The Beaufort Police Department confirmed that threat and assault charges were filed against a sixth-grade student at Lady’s Island Middle School after she was caught on video allegedly bullying another student.

The incident happened Thursday in the girls' locker room at the school, WSAV-TV reported. Nearby students watched and filmed the shocking incident but failed to intervene.

The video shows a large girl holding a much smaller student by her hair. "You don’t like it when people do that to you, right? You wouldn’t like it, right? So don’t do it again," the larger girl says. After shoving the girl, the attacker then punches her, knocking the smaller girl to the ground. As she was falling, the victim hit her head on a bench, resulting in a loud "thud." The attacker then kicked the victim.

As the victim was lying on the ground, the larger girl taunted her, saying, "I will hurt you." The larger girl also threatened the victim, saying that she would "stomp" the victim's "bitch-ass face in."

"You can go now! Bye!" the attacker said as the victim ran out of the locker room.

The police report explained that a verbal altercation between the two girls happened the day before the locker room violence.

In a statement, principal Chavon Browne said that "law enforcement is investigating and the school is taking appropriate steps to ensure that this situation is handled according to the Beaufort County School District’s Student Code of Conduct-Progressive Discipline Plan."

"We do not condone any acts of violence in our school and strive to provide a safe, productive learning environment for our students each day," Browne added.

A police spokesperson confirmed the attacker would be petitioned in family court. She was charged with third-degree assault and battery, as well as making threats.

Still, a family member of the victim told the Island Packet that the parents of the other girl and the school "need to be held more accountable."

"Something’s got to give. We can’t keep saying, ‘Oh, this kid’s been bullied, we’re looking into this situation,’ and you get no response back," that family member said.
