Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro, 72, confirms he is NOT vaccinated because it should be given to 'people who need it' and says giving children and athletes the shot is insane

Former President Donald Trump's trade adviser Peter Navarro confirmed that he remains unvaccinated, saying the COVID-19 vaccine should be reserved for 'people who need it.'

Navarro sat down with Yahoo News for an interview promoting his new book, In Trump Time, A Journal of America's Plague Year - and shared his vaccination status.

'I had the chance to get it early,' the 72-year-old Navarro said of the coronavirus vaccine. 'I went on my exit medical interview, I was at Walter Reed, I told them, 'Look, we got few supplies, give it to people who need it.'

'Vaccinate who need it, the elderly and people with comorbidities,' he continued. 'But you don't jab a 6-year-old. You don't jab a professional athlete. That's insane.'

Navarro was an eccentric figure in the Trump White House.

A former high school athlete who served in the Peace Corps and earned a Ph.D in economics at Harvard, he commuted to the White House by bicycle. Navarro writes about taking a daily 10-minute cold-plunge bath in 50-degree water 'like some Mad Russian.'

Despite his economic lane, he penned long memos on the 'Art of the Steal' alleging a massive voter fraud involving multiple states after the 2020 election.

He also wrote a key early memo calling for more action to confront the coronavirus, which he refers to as the 'Chinese Communist Party Virus.'

During Trump's last year in office, when the COVID-19 pandemic raged, Navarro had been named the National Defense Production Act policy coordinator.

As part of that role, he assured the American people that there would be enough vaccine for everyone when one or more was developed.

'We won't be in a situation where we have too little,' Navarro told Yahoo News in June 2020. 'If, in fact, one of the five or six vaccine developers comes up with what we need, we will have already been able to produce that.'

During the recent interview with Yahoo, however, Navarro - who has no medical training - suggests that mass vaccination will actually hinder the country's ability to escape the coronavirus pandemic.

'When you universally vaccinate, the science tells us we run the risk of a super-mutation that could kill everybody who's been vaccinated,' Navarro claimed.

Viruses mutate to become more transmissible - not more deadly.

Navarro also continues to be a prominent proponent of the 'lab leak' theory on the origin of COVID-19.

Navarro has pushed the conspiracy theory that COVID-19 was created in the Wuhan lab using U.S. funding green-lit by Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top virus expert, who worked for Trump and stayed on for the Biden administration.

In his interview with Yahoo, Navarro claimed the Chinese Communist Party used COVID-19 'like a bioweapon - and likely designed it as such.'

While most scientists believe COVID-19 occurred naturally, U.S. intelligence agencies haven't been able to draw a firm conclusion on COVID origins because China won't cooperate on the matter.
