Democrat Terry McAuliffe, who is running for governor in Virginia, doesn’t seem to think very much of parents’ rights when it comes to education.
During a debate this week, he came right out and said that he doesn’t believe parents should be able to tell schools what to teach.
Why shouldn’t they? Parents pay for the schools and teacher salaries with their taxes.
For months, we have seen parents engaging at school board meetings, angry about what schools are teaching their children.

McAuliffe made the comments during the second and final debate between himself and Republican candidate Glen Youngkin in Virginia’s gubernatorial election.
“What we’ve seen over the course of the last 20 months, is our school systems refusing to engage with parents. In fact in Fairfax County this past week we watched parents so upset because there was such sexually explicit material in the library they had never seen, it was shocking!” said Youngkin.
“And in fact you vetoed the bill that would have informed parents that they were there!” he added. “You believe school systems should tell children what to do, I believe parents should be in charge of their kid’s education.”…
“You vetoed it,” replied Youngkin.
“Yeah, I stopped the bill that – I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach,” McAuliffe said.

Glenn Youngkin, the Republican candidate, has already created an ad based on this soundbite.

Choice in education is an important issue. Republicans should fully embrace it.
