Harvey Weinstein is reportedly being filmed around the clock in prison to ensure he does not meet the same fate as Jeffrey Epstein.
Disgraced financier Epstein, 66, was found dead in his cell in August last year while awaiting trial at New York City’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. Bed sheets were found around his neck and his death was ruled a suicide.
Now Weinstein, 68, who is serving 23 years in prison for rape, is said to have cameras film his every move at Wende Correctional Facility in upstate New York, TMZ reports.
A correctional officer follows the former Hollywood producer carrying a camera at eye level, according to the website. That's in addition to the standard level of surveillance a prisoner might expect.
Sources say the move is to avoid a repeat of Epstein's prison death but also to avoid any conspiracy theories and criminal liability should Weinstein meet the same fate.
Both a spokesman for Weinstein and the New York State Department of Corrections declined to comment on the claims.

The alleged extreme levels of surveillance are a sharp difference from Epstein’s cell.
He was able to kill himself after the guards didn’t check on him all night and the camera outside his cell - there was not one inside - was not working.
Epstein’s death led to a raft of conspiracy theories and speculation that he had instead been murdered.
In January graphic photographs from Epstein's autopsy revealed for the first time his bloody neck wound with other images taken inside his cell showing several nooses fashioned from bed sheets, pills and electrical cords.

Weinstein was convicted in February for sexual assault and rape. He is appealing.
He last week tested negative for the coronavirus while in prison, but is still being closely monitored due to a number of other health issues.
He was transferred to Wende Correctional from Rikers Island in March.

Weinstein is still waiting for his trial in Los Angeles where he will face sexual assault and rape charges involving five women.
The extradition process has been delayed, due to the pandemic.
In total, Weinstein is facing 11 charges for sexual assault in California. If convicted on all charges, he could face up to 140 years to life in prison.

The British socialite, who is accused of recruiting 14-year-old girls for Epstein to abuse, has one camera on the ceiling of her 9ft by 6ft cell - and another 4ft away from her.
She is being woken up every three hours and searched to ensure she does also not meet the same fate as Epstein.
