‘Why Did You Shoot My Daddy And Me?’: 6-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Shot By Neighbor After Basketball Rolls Into His Yard

A six-year-old girl was shot along with her mother and father by a neighbor after a basketball rolled into his yard, according to reports.

Kinsley White suffered from bullet fragments in her cheeks while her father William was left critically injured when suspected gunman Robert Louis Singletary reportedly became enraged after young children playing with a basketball let the ball roll down the street and into his yard. According to neighbors, Singletary ran down the street, firing his gun at a neighbor, then returned, shooting at William White as he reportedly attempted to draw the gunfire toward him to protect the children, fleeing with Kinsley. William White was shot in the back in his front yard; Kinsley’s mother, Ashely Hildebrand, was also grazed by a bullet.

Interviewed by a reporter, Kinsley asked plaintively of Singletary, “Why did you shoot my daddy and me? Why did you shoot a kid’s dad?”

“He looked at my husband and my daughter and told them, ‘I’m going to kill you,’” Hildebrand told WSOC.

Singletary apparently kept shooting. Carolyn Hilderbrand, Kinsley’s grandmother, said, “I believe he would have got me and my husband too. He just run out of bullets.”

“Gaston County Police has obtained warrants on Robert Louis Singletary for his involvement in the shooting,” The Gascon County Police stated. “Mr. Singletary has been charged with 4 counts of attempted 1st degree murder, 2 counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and 1 count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Mr. Singletary remains at large.”

“The Gaston County Police Department encourages citizens in the area to remain vigilant and report any sightings of Mr. Singletary to the Gaston County Communications Center,” the police added.

Singletary is likely to face more charges for allegedly shooting into neighbors’ houses.

“I want to say to the people of Gaston County — this sort of violence will not stand,” Police Chief Stephen Zill said.

In December 2022, the Gastonia Police Department charged Singletary after he allegedly assaulted his 21-year-old girlfriend with a mini-sledgehammer. She told authorities he struck her in the back of her head. After the alleged attack, he reportedly kept his girlfriend inside his apartment for over two hours. He was released on bond.
