A second woman has come forward to allege that Republican Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker “pressured” her into having an abortion, attorney Gloria Allred announced in a press conference Wednesday.
Allred held a press conference regarding the accusation that Walker had an affair with her client, known as Jane Doe, in the 1990’s and helped Doe obtain an abortion. The client, who Allred said will remain anonymous, allegedly provided evidence that she was in a relationship with the candidate.
At the press conference, Allred said that Walker told her client he wanted to leave his wife to be with her. Allred also played an audio recording that allegedly captured Walker telling Doe that he loved her.
Doe then became pregnant by Walker and received cash from the former football star to undergo an abortion. She went to an abortion clinic in Dallas, Texas, but did not go through with the procedure, Allred claimed. Walker was reportedly upset and pressured Doe to return to the clinic. The next day, Walker drove her back to the clinic and waited in the parking lot until the abortion was completed, according to Allred.
“The following day, Mr. Walker drove her to the clinic, waited in the parking lot for hours until the abortion was completed and she came out,” Allred said. Then he drove her to the pharmacy to pick up medications as prescribed, and then he drove her home. In the days following the abortion, Mr. Walker began to distance himself from our client. She was distraught because she felt that Mr. Walker pressured her into having an abortion,” Allred said.
The client then allegedly left Dallas because of the trauma she suffered, Allred said. After she departed Dallas, Walker allegedly sent her a note apologizing for the incident.
“Mr. Walker professes to be against abortion, even though he paid for and pressured our client to have an abortion. Mr. Walker claims on his webpage that, ‘strong families are the bedrock of our country,’ despite his attempts to clothe himself to Christian family values, he nevertheless had an affair with our client for approximately six years…Our client feels that Mr. Walker is a complete hypocrite and does not deserve to be a United States Senator from the state of Georgia,” Allred said.
Doe then read a personal statement regarding the allegations without revealing her face or identity.
This is the second anonymous accuser who has come forward to accuse Walker of assisting her in obtaining an abortion. The first woman alleged that Walker paid for her to undergo an abortion in 2009, providing The Daily Beast with a $575 receipt from the abortion clinic, a “get well” card and a bank deposit receipt for a $700 check signed by Walker.
After the story broke on Oct. 3, Walker’s son, conservative influencer Christian Walker, attacked his father in a series of tweets. “You’re not a ‘family man’ when you left [my mother and me] to bang a bunch of women, threatened to kill us, and had us move over 6 times in 6 months running from your violence,” Christian Walker wrote.
Herschel Walker threatened to sue the outlet over the story and accused Daily Beast political reporter Roger Sollenberger of attacking him for political purposes.
This is another repugnant hatchet job from a Democrat activist disguised as a reporter who has obsessively attacked my family and tried to tear me down since this race started,” Walker said. “He’s harassed friends of mine, asking if I fathered their children. He’s called my children ‘secret’ because I didn’t want to use them as campaign props in a political campaign.”
“Now, they’re using an anonymous source to further slander me,” he added. “They will do anything to hold onto power. I [sic] planning to sue the Daily Beast for this defamatory lie. It will be filed tomorrow morning.”
During an exclusive interview with NBC News on Oct. 17, Walker admitted that the signature on the $700 check was his. Despite that admission, he continues to deny the allegation that he paid for the woman’s abortion.
